The Benefits of a Writing Sample Resume

Writing samples can serve as templates when it comes to writing for yourself. A writing sample resume can show you how to put together a professional resume that will get attention. There are plenty of websites and books where you can see real resumes that can help you decide how you want your own resume to look. You shouldn't feel like you're plagiarizing or copying when you look at samples. You are simply borrowing the structure and getting ideas. You cannot plagiarize a resume because your skills, your experience, your education and your words will be your own, even if you use a certain format you saw on an example.

There are different types of resumes. The first and most popular type is the chronological resume. With a chronological resume, you list your education and experience in order from past to present. Many people go from the present to the past so your most recent job is listed first. This is convenient for employers because your last job is going to be the most important. Then there's the functional resume. This resume focuses less on education and work history and more on achievements and abilities.

The third type of resume is a combined resume which blends the best characteristics of the chronological and functional resume into one. You will list your education and work history in chronological order, but you will also include sections for your skills, abilities and any awards or recognition you've received. The combined resume tells an employer everything they need to know to decide whether or not to call you in for an interview. The usual format is your job objective, followed by education, followed by work history. Then, you can include a section where your skills, abilities, awards and other achievements are highlighted.

In addition to a writing sample resume, you may also want to find some cover letter examples. The cover letter comes before the resume and helps summarize your intention and why you are a good candidate for the job. A cover letter should be in professional business letter format and should be approximately one page in length. Many job applicants also include a page of professional and/or personal references with their cover letter and resume.

Most people introduce themselves when meeting a stranger. A brief handshake and giving your name are just two of the ways to let someone know who you are. A professional resume is an introduction from you to a potential employer. You may not be able to shake his or her hand until the interview portion, but you can still let employers know who you are.
