Job Interview and Resume Writing Tips
![]() |
The resume and job interview are the two most important parts of getting a job. The first step is the resume. If a potential employer likes your resume, you may be called in for an interview. The interview is a pivotal event for applicants. If the interview goes well, you just might get the job you're hoping for. Or, you may be invited back for a second interview or job related testing before actually being hired. The actual hiring process will differ from company to company, but what does not differ is the importance of the resume and interview. The following job interview and resume writing tips can help you make the best impression possible with a potential employer.
Make sure your resume is formatted correctly. This means one inch margins on the top, bottom and sides of the page. Use resume paper, which is thicker than regular printer paper. Your name and contact information goes at the top of the page. Some people like to include a job objective as the first entry, others don't. The most popular type of resume is chronological. You can list your education and work experience chronologically, then add a section at the bottom for skills, abilities, awards and the like. If your resume is impressive, you'll probably be called for an interview.
Dressing for success is important when it comes to the job interview. How you dress depends on where you're applying for a job. For example, you will want to dress conservatively in office apparel if you are applying for a corporate job. If you are applying for a creative office job like advertising or design, you can spice up your conservative look with a colorful pin or other piece of jewelry, but don't go overboard. The key is to look at how the boss dresses, and emulate him or her as is appropriate.
For more job interview and resume writing tips, you can try searching the Internet. Another great way to find helpful tips is to read a few books on the subject. There are certainly plenty of them. One good title to check out is Human Resource Approved Job Interviews & Resumes: Successful Secrets from the Hiring Side of the Desk by Michael Schell. This book can help you gain a valuable insight about how potential employers choose who to hire. It's one of the many books on shelves that can help you when it comes to getting the job you want.

Most people introduce themselves when meeting a stranger. A brief handshake and giving your name are just two of the ways to let someone know who you are. A professional resume is an introduction from you to a potential employer. You may not be able to shake his or her hand until the interview portion, but you can still let employers know who you are. Writing a resume is not hard, yet many people do not know how to write a resume. There are resources to help you though. |
