How Resume Writing Examples Can Help You
![]() |
Your resume is the first thing a potential employer sees from you. After reading your resume, a potential employer may decide to call you for an interview if he or she feels you are a good candidate for the position you are applying for. But what if you've never written a resume before and need one to apply for a job? In that case, looking at various resume writing examples can help you. Seeing examples of good and bad resumes can go a long way towards helping you write the ideal resume for your needs.
There are three main types of resumes. The chronological resume lists your educational and career related achievements by date, from past to present. Most employers like this style because it is easy to read and details your education and experience in a logical fashion. Then there's what's known as a functional resume. This type of resume is based on your achievements and skills and does not give much focus to places or dates. The last type of resume is a combination resume, which is probably your best bet.
A combination resume combines the features of a chronological and functional resume into one. For example, a combination resume will list when and where you worked, but it will also detail your specific tasks and special achievements at each job. It may also contain a special section where you list your particular skills, aptitudes, awards or other achievements. If you want to see samples of the three main types of resumes, the Internet is a good place to look. While there are certainly plenty of websites that will try to sell you their resume writing services, there are also plenty of educational websites out there as well where you can learn great free tips for writing your resume.
Performing a search engine query for resume writing examples can lead you to many free samples posted on the web. You can see what makes a good resume, and what makes a bad one. There are also a great deal of books written about resumes. One of the very best for this purpose is The Encyclopedia of Job Winning Resumes by Myra Fournier and Jeffrey Spin. Another great book which has been endorsed by the Professional Association of Resume Writers is 101 Best Resumes by Jay A. Block and Michael Betrus.

Today's Tip On Resume Writing
You should go into depth about your work experiences and skills. However, it is imperative that you stick to information that is related to the position being offered. It may be interesting that you can stick a spoon on your nose, but an employer may not want to know that much about you. A professional resume gives relevant information and lets the employer know about your past work experience. If you have skills and talents that are applicable, then include this information. |
